Biography
Steve McConnell is Board Chair and Managing Partner of NBBJ, where he has spent over 36 years shaping the firm's strategic direction, governance, and design culture. His leadership has been central to NBBJ's growth as a multidisciplinary practice, advancing the firm's capabilities in research, technology, and experience design. Under his tenure, NBBJ has been recognized as the most innovative architecture firm in the world by Fast Company. McConnell's project portfolio spans international and domestic markets across public and private sectors, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Headquarters, Hong Kong's Asia World Expo, and Reebok's World Headquarters, among others. Before joining NBBJ in 1990, he worked with Arata Isozaki and Associates in Tokyo and Fisher Friedman and Associates in San Francisco. A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture.
