
Irene Hwang

Biography
Irene Hwang is a faculty member in architecture at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan, where her research and teaching focus on how architecture shapes and impacts society. Since 2018, she has helped lead the Architecture Education Consortium, directing the Stacked Mentorship Program (SMP), an innovative model creating an inter-institutional community of students, faculty, and professionals. She also directs CoRE, an eight-institution consortium applying the SMP framework to build capacity in the national research enterprise. Previously, she served as Assistant Chair of Architecture at Taubman College from 2018 to 2023. Her earlier career includes roles as Director of Business Development at TenBerke, Senior Communications Manager at KPF, and Director of Publications and Exhibitions at MIT. Hwang holds a Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
