
Eric Cesal

Biography
Eric Cesal is a designer, educator, writer, and noted post-disaster expert who has led on-the-ground reconstruction programs after the Haiti earthquake, the Great East Japan Tsunami, and Superstorm Sandy. He currently teaches methods and tactics for community-led disaster recovery at Harvard Extension School. Previously, Cesal served as Director of Sustainable Environmental Design and Visiting Lecturer at UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design, and as Executive Director of Architecture for Humanity. His expertise spans architecture, international development, economics, and foreign policy as they affect the built environment. Cesal holds advanced degrees in Architecture and Construction Management, as well as an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. He has been interviewed by The New Yorker, Architectural Record, Foreign Policy Magazine, and Monocle, and lectures frequently on design's role in addressing technological innovation, climate change, and urbanization.
