Biography
Adrian Smith, FAIA, RIBA, is Founding Partner Emeritus of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG), which he established in 2006. An architect of international renown, Smith designed the world's two tallest structures: Burj Khalifa in Dubai and Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia. Prior to founding AS+GG, he served as Design Partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill from 1980 to 2006. Smith has shaped Chicago's urban landscape through landmark master plans including Cityfront Center, Lake Shore East, and Millennium Park. His design philosophy of 'Global Contextualism' integrates vernacular forms with sustainable technologies, emphasizing onsite power generation and environmental sensitivity. Smith has designed buildings and master plans across six continents and co-authored Chicago's Central Area DeCarbonization Plan. He is a frequent keynote speaker at AIA conventions and CTBUH conferences worldwide.
